Thank You for the Support

Dear Parishioners,

Over the last couple of months we have encouraged all parishioners to participate in thanksgiving contributions by using direct debit as listed in the message below ‘Supporting the Parish’, thank you to everyone who has taken up this option. Our Parish contributions over the last couple of months has dropped significantly. This is leaving the Parish in a financially vulnerable position and I am seeking alternate ways of topping up this loss.

Could I please encourage everyone to use the facilities listed below to ensure that our planned giving contribution is maintained through these testing times. For those who are still contributing, we are deeply grateful. It means the work of the Parish can continue in these difficult days. Thank you for your commitment to the Parish. It is deeply appreciated.

Fr Jude and Fr Silvio

Special thanks to our St James Primary School for providing space in the Paulist Centre for temporary worship. To Thomas Carr College for the use of the chapel for our weekday Masses and providing storage space. And to our neighbouring Parish St Peter’s, Hoppers Crossing, for allowing us to store the church pews. Thank you to Brian from PJ Waste for providing the Dumpster and to Brendan McShane for the 6 tonne truck for transporting the church pews.

We would like to express our gratitude to all our benefactors who supported us in this wonderful experience we had in Australia. Thanks to Fr. Jude, Dr. Andrew Watson and his team, Members of MSSP in Australia and in the Philippines, to our dear host parents and all the Parishioners.

We would also like to thank Thomas Carr College, Tarneit, Trinity College, Colac, Caroline Chisolm Catholic College, Braybrook and Our Lady of Mercy College, Heidelberg for organizing memorable professional concerts where we could show our talents.

We thank you all for giving us a very warm welcome and a truly unforgettable opportunity. Who would have thought that one day our orchestra would be in Australia? You made us achieve one of our dreams. Thank you for appreciating our talents. We really enjoyed playing music with you.

We also thank the person behind this amazing project Fr. Joseph Cremona mssp, who is always there for us and who never stopped supporting us. We thank God for giving us such a great person with a wonderful heart. Without him, this experience would have never been possible.

We will surely treasure this experience which helps us grow and develop more. This is also an eye opener for us motivating us to take the project more seriously and with greater commitment.

Words are not enough but allow us to say THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts! MABUHAY!

Easter Thank You

Thank you to all who assisted in preparing and celebrating for the Holy Week and Easter liturgies, especially the Parish Staff who continue to make a wonderful contribution to serving our community, as do many generous and committed volunteers in our thriving parish at all levels, ages and stages. Gratitude goes especially at this time to those who helped make Palm Sunday and the Easter celebrations more life-giving, and all who participated: the Parish Council, Altar Servers, Carpenter’s Club, Environment Helpers (both outside and inside the Church), Music Ministry, Ushers, Carparking Attendants, Liturgical Ministers, Counters, Youth Ministry, RCIA Team, those who donated chocolates for the community, those who donated palm and olive branches, All Green Nursery for donating palm branches, people working behind the scenes and all who have been involved. We say a heartfelt thank you to all: we couldn’t manage without you. We are always looking for new ideas to keep our liturgies vibrant, meaningful, and reaching out to all.  And may all our parishioners at St James persevere with eyes that love so that they may experience the many resurrection moments in their lives. I wish you and your families the peace and mercy of the Risen Lord this Easter.

As we celebrate today, I ask you to continue praying for all our priests, and especially for myself, so that I may continue to have the courage to serve the community faithfully.

May the grace of the Easter season fill your hearts with new faith in God, whose plans for us are, as the prophet Jeremiah said, peace and not disaster.

It is with a  heavy heart, many prayers, but a clear mind, that I have made the decision to resign from my duties at St James Parish.  I thank you for all the love, care and support throughout the years.  It has truly been a labour of love and a great faith filled journey, with may blessings, little miracles, and beautiful friendships formed over the years.

I thank God for leading me to St James at a time when I was faced with a huge life changing challenge and of course my prayers to be sent to where He wanted me to work next.  Bingo, St James Parish House!  Luckily, I listened and trusted completely in God’s plan.

Once again, I find myself listening to God’s whispers, which has been a big influence in my decision to resign from St James. Yours sincerely,

Leonie Martinez, Parish House Keeper

Fr Jude gives thanks for Leonie and writes:

I would personally like to thank Leonie for her care, support and love over the past 11 years.  She has lovingly prepared meals for me and the many visiting brother priests over this time, the school principals and visitors to the Parish House.  Leonie has also maintained and cleaned the Parish House and has possessed a friendly, welcoming and caring attitude to all visitors, making my ministry less stressful.

I personally wish to thank Leonie, Joe her husband and her daughters Kiarra and Alicia for the beautiful journey we have shared. We look forward to continuing the journey as we live out  the joy of the Gospel.  There will be a Mass of Farewell for Leonie on Sat 09 March at 6:00pm. May God bless you.

On Sun 16 Dec, the Couples for Christ Australia (CFCA) hosted a Christmas Lunch for the seniors in our Parish.  Here are a few thoughts by participants on the event:

“Thank you to the Couples for Christ Australia especially Tita for organizing a wonderful Christmas Lunch that had so much love and admiration.  Thank you to Fr. Jude for showing us all the warmth, enjoyment and the pleasure of being  part of St James the Apostle Community.”

Beatrice

“I want to thank everyone from Couples for Christ  Australia for the magnificent party for us “oldies” today, I am overwhelmed at your generosity to us; truly it was a magnificent spread and so beautifully organised down to the last little detail.  The food was so plentiful and so tasty and fresh, I really loved the noodle dish and of course the apple crumble was just perfect, I’d love the recipe but I don’t think I could get a pan big enough or fit it in an oven.

The opening prayer was inspiring and the MC played his role perfectly, introducing the different events with perception and humour, the kids show was just beautiful and heart-warming, especially the little singers and dancers and I meant to chat with the solo violinist  – it must have taken a lot of courage to get up and play to a crowd of adults so well done to her.

And thank you too for the most generous presents – all of you really are too kind, the lunch and entertainment itself would have been more than enough with the lovely table settings and the crackers; all so perfect and such a lovely way to have lunch on Gaudate Sunday.”

St James Parish Fete

Dear Parishioners,

This year was the first year I was physically absent from the Parish Fete, an event where we all gather and support community and the future works of our Parish.

The reason for my absence was to celebrate the significant birthday with family of my niece in Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast. My niece lives with spasticity, a condition in which certain muscles are continuously contracted.

I left for Brisbane feeling confident that with the leadership of Kevin Lloyd (Fete Coordinator), the Fete Committee and our faithful volunteers all would be well.

My only task was to pray for favourable weather. The three day weather forecast reassured me that 23 degree Celsius was predicted but that quickly changed to rain and a cold day of 19 degrees. I kept in constant communication on the day of the Fete with Angel Hartanto our Bookkeeper with high anxiety levels as I heard of the heavy down pour and quiet morning.

It wasn’t until Kevin Lloyd kindly rang me early in the afternoon to say “stop stressing and enjoy your niece’s birthday; the community have not disappointed us, they are here in full support with the sun making an occasional appearance.” I immediately felt reassured and the words of St Therese of Lisieux reminded me ‘that nothing is small in the eyes of God. Do all that you do with love. Little acts of kindness can go a long way’

Thank you to our loving God, Parishioners of St James, Kevin Lloyd, the Fete Committee, the Parish Staff, donors, the school communities, the many volunteers and those who supported the Fete. I am overjoyed by your witness and thankful to God for his many blessings. Thank you also to Fr Brendan, Fr Ivan and Fr Minh for celebrating the Masses in my absence.

The financial results of the Fete will be published in our bulletin in the next few weeks.

Fr Jude Pirotta mssp
