Young Paulist Community Service Event – Volunteers Wanted / Book Drive

We are also opening up the opportunity for the wider St James Community to support the residents at Sunrise by holding a community book drive. If you have any much loved books that are no longer wanted, and would be suitable, we encourage you to bring them to the St James Parish Office so we can present them to Sunrise on the day.

We ask that books be delivered to St James no later than the 16th of April so we can take them across.

It was a busy weekend for all the YP Team Leaders as we got our bake on for our hot cross bun drive. We want to thank Eiffel Tower Cakes in Tullamarine for letting the Leaders run-a-muck in the bakery because without your support, this would not have been possible and the parish office for your administration assistance. But most importantly to everyone in the Parish, our school communities, the mssp family and the wider community for buying our hot cross buns! We were overwhelmed with your messages of thanks and financial support, it’s all very affirming and greatly appreciated. All the money raised (which totalled just over $2,850.00) will go to supporting the on-going work of the Young Paulists and 2 projects in the Philippines: the Batiawan Primary School stationary fund and the sponsorship of the new mssp noviciates in Manila. We wish you all a blessed and happy Easter!

On Sunday 31 January, I volunteered my time along with 27 others from the Young Paulist Core Team and St James parish volunteers in their first fundraising event of 2016.

The event was hosted at Bunnings Warehouse, Hoppers Crossing and raised money for MSSP projects both here in Australia and internationally. We were blessed with good weather which ensured a steady sell of appetising sausages to the local community.

As always I felt very welcomed by the YP Core Team and Fr Jude Pirotta. Giving back always makes my day that much brighter particularly for such an enthusiastic team of young adults whose mission is purposeful and meaningful.

I’m impressed by the YPs genuine commitment to each and every service activity initiated by them. They’re organised, supportive and most of all inclusive. I therefore can’t help but encourage you to join these young adults whether that be through volunteering or attending their events over the course of the year

I look forward to hearing about their future events and will continue to advertise them in the Beacon.  However, if you wish to find out more please contact the YP Core Team anytime.

For the Young Paulist August event, we ran a Friday night goal setting workshop with Life Coach Joseph Sulfaro. It was an interactive evening where Joe gave us guidance and tips to achieving our life goals. Joe’s unique approach of theory involved us getting out of our comfort zone, changing our mind set and how it all works into God’s plan for us was absolutely inspiring!

Here is Anne’s reflection:

Over my years I have attended various empowering workshops, seminars and forums on effective communication, public speaking, professional growth, leadership and lots more. So when the opportunity arose on Friday 21 August to attend the ‘Young Paulist Goal Setting Workshop’ whilst donating to a wonderful charitable cause; I was definitely in! Not to mention my favourite genres are religion and self-help/motivation and this workshop was a great combo of both.

The presenter’s ideas and insights where quite simple but effective. Activities over the course of the evening gave me a unique kind of freedom and power; the freedom to be at ease whilst thinking about areas that really matter to me. I have to say that in amongst all the crazy dancing and yelling out of powerful affirmations, I walked away experiencing benefits both practical and profound that I feel will continue to expand and unfold over time. Not to mention, they certainly have been at the back of my mind since the event; first one being “I need to get fit and make the time!!”.

I must not though forget to mention that I couldn’t have felt more welcomed by both familiar faces and others I hadn’t met before. There was certainly a great feel around the room; lots of pleasant faces and smiles! I think Fr Jude defined it well on the evening “a place where you can feel safe, welcomed and accepted”. I look forward to attending future events hosted by the YPs as they do such an amazing job!

A BIG THANK YOU to Joe for donating his time and expertise, to the Team at Eiffel Tower Cakes for the refreshments and to our YP Leader Myla, Justin and Sheryn for organising the event!
