Message from Fr Jude and Fr Silvio

Message from Fr Jude and Fr Silvio

Recently, Fr Silvio and I have had several calls, inquiring about the covid vaccinations.

Pope Francis tells us that “getting vaccinated is a simple yet profound way to care for one another, especially the most vulnerable”.

As we continue to see the covid numbers increase, the most effective way to show our care and concern for ourselves and for others, is to be vaccinated.  As Christians, we strongly encourage all within our community, including Parish employees, to get vaccinated as soon as possible, manifesting our obligation to love our neighbour.

We encourage you to rely on reputable sources of information to help you make informed choices and visit your doctor to discuss any questions you may have regarding the vaccine and you.

Fr Jude Pirotta mssp.

Dear Parishioners of St James,

Over three years ago the decision was announced to hold a Plenary Council and the People of God began preparing for this historic moment by listening to God and by listening to one another’s stories of faith.

We as a Parish had several sessions to provide input for this Plenary Council. After this time of listening and journeying the Catholic Church of Australia will gather for the first assembly of the Plenary Council from 3-10th October 2021.

The Plenary Council website will provide daily livestreams of parts of the opening Plenary sessions and Masses (including the Opening Mass on Sun 03 Oct). https://www.plenarycouncil.catholic.org.au/assembly-1/

Plenary Council Masses and daily morning prayer booklets for full participation are available here:
https://www.plenarycouncil.catholic.org.au/prayer/

May God grant the grace to all those gathering to be open to the Spirit leading them through these upcoming days of prayer, listening and discernment.

PRAYER OF PETITION TO THE HOLY SPIRIT
A prayer used before every session of the Second Vatican Council.
This is to be prayed at the beginning of a Plenary Council.

We stand before you, Holy Spirit, conscious of our sinfulness,
but aware that we gather in your name.

Come to us, remain with us, and enlighten our hearts.

Give us light and strength to know your will,
to make it our own and to live it in our lives.

Guide us by your wisdom, support us by your power, for you are God, sharing the glory of Father and Son.

You desire justice for All

Enable us to uphold the rights of others; do not allow us to be misled by ignorance or corrupted by fear or favour. Unite us to yourself in the bond of love and keep us faithful to all that is true.
As we gather in your name may we temper justice with love, so that all our decisions may be pleasing to you, and earn the reward promised to good and faithful servants, Amen .

Survey Results

Thank you to those who completed the project proposal survey and those who attended the zoom forum. Your time and contribution is greatly appreciated. It has been wonderful to hear everyone’s thoughts on the different proposal ideas and their views on the strengths and needs of St James as a community. We collated all the suggestions from the survey and presented the ideas at the forum. It was decided that the project proposal will be for a community garden. If parishioners are interested in reviewing the meeting minutes, please email Diane at [email protected]

Jose De Piro Kabattang Orkestra

To enhance the Church’s social teaching and provide opportunities for those in need, CaSPA (Catholic Secondary Principals Australia) and its corporate partners have encouraged secondary schools in Australia to apply for the annual Social Action Funding Grant aimed at providing support to those within remote Australia or in neighbouring countries.

The Faith and Mission Team from Thomas Carr College, were recently delighted to learn that their application to support the work of the Jose De Piro Kabataang Orkestra was successful.

This application was aimed at supporting the Missionary Society of St Paul’s Jose De Piro Kabataang Foundation, which auspices the music program of Jose De Piro Kabataang Orkestra (Youth Orchestra) which is comprised of more than 60 talented young musicians from impoverished and disadvantaged families in Dinalupihan, in the Province of Bataan, Philippines.

Thank you to CaSPA for their $5000 grant. Read more about this HERE.
