Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

At St James the Apostle Parish, we welcome all people, especially those who are searching for a deeper connection to God in their lives.
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a structured program for adults wishing to join the Catholic Church, or complete their initiation into it, by celebrating the sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, Confirmation and Eucharist (Holy Communion).

The RCIA is a Catechumenate program which has its roots in an ancient tradition within the church that companions and supports people who enquire. There is never any pressure to join but only a respectful relationship that allows each person the freedom to experience their own spiritual journey.

If, after an introduction to the beliefs and practices of the community, an inquirer wishes to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church, the person is accepted for the Sacraments of Initiation and commences a journey of discovery and growth within the community through the RCIA journey.

The RCIA process is facilitated by a small team of parishioners who meet each Friday evening at 7.00 pm. This team ensures that the candidate is supported by a sponsor, given a good introduction to the Church’s faith, and has opportunities to participate in worship, mission and life of our faith community. From the moment someone is received into the ‘catechumenate’ as it is called, he or she becomes part of the Catholic Christian community.

Please contact Felix Choo on 0431 008 563 or fill out Online Enquirer Form if you would like to know more about the RCIA. In the meantime, you may wish to join us at any of our liturgies. Please feel free to come along.
