Lesson Eight – Bishop Mark Edwards’ visit and what to expect at Confirmation
We were delighted to have Bishop Mark Edwards come to our parish to speak to the Confirmation candidates and their parents. Here is some of the content that he covered in his talk.
A Confirmation Mass is very much like a regular Mass, except for 3 extra parts:
Renewal of baptismal promises,
Laying on of hands,
Anointing with the oil of Chrism.
Please watch the following video and look for these three special parts of the Mass:
Q1: Your parents made promises for you when you were baptised. Why is it important for you to make these promises yourself now?
Q2: When there are many Confirmation candidates, the Bishop does not lay hands on each candidate’s head individually. What did it look like it the video?
Q3: When the Bishop anoints you with the oil of chrism he will say “Be sealed with the Gift of the Holy Sprit” and you will answer “Amen”. Then he will touch your cheek and say “Peace be with you”. What will you respond?
Please watch the following video:
Q4: Confirmation “gives us a special strength of the Holy Spirit to spread and defend the Faith by word and action” (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1303) and has traditionally been associated with becoming a soldier for Christ. What does it mean to be a soldier for Christ?
Q5: Where do you see a spiritual battle going on in the world, and what is your role in it?
