Prayers of the Faithful – Sun 17 Oct – 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Introduction

This Sunday, following the predictions Jesus gave of his suffering and death, we contemplate our Saviour and the implications for us, his followers.

In the Gospel, James and John hope for privileged places in the kingdom, but learn that they, like Jesus, must go through suffering and death. They are asked to serve, not to dominate.

Prayers of the Faithful

Celebrant:   Dear friends, Jesus spent his life among us in the service of all. In that spirit let us pray for the needs of the whole human family.

Lector:   For public health workers engaging with culturally diverse communities, that they will help them respond effectively to the COVID challenge.

                            (pause………………………we pray to the Lord)

Lector:   For young people struggling with mental health issues, that they will find the personal companionship and professional help they need.

                            (pause………………………we pray to the Lord)

Lector:   For all who were born or have become deaf, that they will be enabled to flourish and participate fully in the life of the community.

                            (pause………………………we pray to the Lord)

Lector:   For refugees and asylum seekers in Australia who see violence and injustice consuming their homelands, that their pain will be eased by local networks of support.

                            (pause………………………we pray to the Lord)

Celebrant:   We pray for the ancestors of the Wurundjeri people on whose land we stand, for all our loved ones who have died, as well as for the recently deceased; Theodora Pornillosa Lusterio, Marica Bendekovic and Marie Hudson, and for those whose anniversary of death occurs around this time especially Giovanni Rovetto, Magdalena Kozak, Josephine and Vincent Attard, Louis, Grace, Carmen and Mary Spiteri, Mario Barbara, Rita Farrugia, Madeline Azzopardi, Jonathan Gauci, Leonardo and McLeo Yotoko, Emy Saffarese, Natu Portelli, Jeff Ruthvern, Ron and Kris Gamble and all those in our Mass Intentions today, that they will enjoy the eternal life won for them by the Son of Man.

                            (pause………………………we pray to the Lord)

Celebrant:    God of all goodness, your Son emptied himself of glory to be servant of all. Keep us true to his name. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
