Prayers of the Faithful – 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Prayers of the Faithful – 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Introduction:

This weekend we celebrate National Vocations Awareness Week.  Let us remember all those who are discerning their vacations in life at this time.

In the Gospel today, the crowd have been searching for Jesus, perhaps wanting more of the physical bread he has given them. Jesus’s teaching appeals to their deeper, spiritual hunger.

In our prayer this week, we can turn to God, knowing that, whatever the situation, he will always provide for his people. May it lead us also to a greater appreciation of the Eucharist.

Prayers of the Faithful:

Celebrant:   Dear friends, in word and sacrament Jesus offers us food for eternal life. In his name let us pray for all who hunger for food or for love.

Lector:   For our Holy Father – Pope Francis, our Bishop Peter and all who lead us in faith; may they sustain us in fidelity to Christ and to the Church.

                            (pause………………………we pray to the Lord)

Lector:   For our priests, deacons and religious, especially those in our community; may our prayers and support sustain them in fidelity and courage.

                            (pause………………………we pray to the Lord)

Lector:   For all young people, may they put their trust in the things of God, including by responding to the call to a vocation to priesthood and consecrated life.

                            (pause………………………we pray to the Lord)

Lector:   For all families and for those preparing for marriage; may they be strengthened in fidelity and faith.

                            (pause………………………we pray to the Lord)

Lector:   For all called to the single way of life, that through their living of the Gospel, they may continue to model the human face of our God.

                            (pause………………………we pray to the Lord)

Lector:   For all who are struggling with the physical, emotional and financial toll of the COVID pandemic, that they will receive the support they need to recover.

                            (pause………………………we pray to the Lord)

Lector:   For all competitors in the Olympic Games, that their striving for excellence will inspire many to new heights of human achievement.

                            (pause………………………we pray to the Lord)

Celebrant:   We pray for the ancestors of the Wurundjeri people on whose land we stand, for all our loved ones who have died, as well as for the recently deceased; Zenaida Tamin, Daisy D’Souza, Esther Uwase and Fe Aclan and for those whose anniversary of death occurs around this time especially Angela Nave, Grace Faranda and Grigoris Fernando and all those in our Mass Intentions today, that their hunger for eternal life will be fully satisfied.

                            (pause………………………we pray to the Lord)

Celebrant:    God of wisdom and goodness, you never cease to sustain us with your love. Open our hearts to all who seek our help. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
