Exemple

Come & celebrate community with us at our:

Parish Fete this coming Saturday 19 October, 10:00am—4:00pm

The Parish Fete is our major fundraiser and a great community day that relies on our parish members to support it in so many ways.

VOLUNTEERS – More volunteers are needed for setting up, helping at a stall, cooking or serving and packing up. This is an opportunity to help out your Parish and build community with others. If you can help, please complete the Volunteers Form available from the Church Narthex.

WRIST BANDS – Are on sale after all weekend Masses. The cost is $35 before the Fete (non-refundable) and $40 on the day of the Fete.  A wrist band gives you unlimited rides along with a sausage, a drink and a donut.

CAKE KITS—  Please pick up a cake kit from the Narthex if you are able to bake something for the cake stall.

2nd HAND ITEMS – Books, toys and items for the white elephant stall can be dropped off on the Presbytery Veranda (strictly no mattresses or large furniture, nor any 2nd hand clothing or electrical items).

PLANT STALL – Donations of plants for the Plant Stall can be placed outside the Presbytery. Each family is encouraged to donate a plant.

MASSES ON FETE DAY—Due to the Fete there will be no morning Mass at 9:00am on this day.  The evening Vigil Mass will move to 7:00pm instead of 6:00pm for this day only. No morning or afternoon Reconciliation available this day.

The Fete starts at 10:00am. Please invite your family and friends to come along and join in the fun at the Fete.

Your generous assistance is what makes our Parish Fete so successful in creating and sustaining our vibrant community. Proceeds of the Parish Community Fete will assist in our Church Extension Project.

The Season of Lent

In a couple of weeks Lent will begin. It is an opportunity to reflect. Perhaps rather than denying ourselves the shallow, superficial things we should search out our most profound desires, to learn who we really are and what we really want. The struggle of the spiritual life is often not our will against God’s will, but our own will struggling with its divided self. Lent is an opportunity for formation of the heart. If we are merciful to others, we must have a strong and steadfast heart, open to God bringing love along the road to our brothers and sisters; one which realizes our poverty and gives ourselves freely to others.

Burning of Ashes: Before Lent begins, palms and olive branches from the previous year’s Palm Sunday are burnt to create the ashes used on Palm Sunday. We are invited to bring our dried palms and olive branches to any of the following Masses on this Fri 09 Feb: 9:00am at St James Primary, 11:40am at St Clare’s Primary (130 Marquands Road, Truganina) and 1:30pm at St Francis Primary (45 Fairview Parade, Tarneit).

Ash Wednesday: The Season of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday on Wed 14 Feb. It is a day of fasting and abstinence. Masses are 9:00am at St James Primary, 10:30am at St Francis Primary,(45 Fairview Parade, Tarneit), Noon at St Clare’s Primary (130 Marquands Road, Truganina) and 7:30pm at St James Church with the distribution of Ashes at all Masses.

The Way of the Cross: During Lent, time to reflect on the Stations of the Cross will be every Friday from Fri 16 Feb at 7:30pm in the Church.

Project Compassion: Project Compassion promotes peace by pursuing justice. Please take home a Project Compassion box and/or a set of envelopes available in the Narthex from this weekend and return by Holy Thursday.

Paulist Missionary Sponsorship: For $5 per month, you can help with the wellbeing and education of children in Pakistan, Peru and the Philippines. Brochures available from this weekend.

Did You Know?: Lent is the liturgical season of 40 days which begins with Ash Wednesday and ends with the celebration of the Paschal Mystery (Easter Triduum). The day before Ash Wednesday is called Shrove Tuesday and the tradition is to use up all your eggs, fats, and milk so that fasting can begin on Ash Wednesday. The ashes are a reminder that God’s forgiveness is real. The forty days of Lent relates to the forty days Jesus spent in the wilderness preparing for public ministry. Sundays are not included in the count because every Sunday is a little Easter.

St James Men’s Ministry

Wow, what an experience, all groups came together to celebrate the end of the year with Eucharist followed by a BBQ with the lot. Fr Jude invited every man to share their experience and so they did. Even the visitors had something to share.

The groups have bonded so well and share at a deep level resulting in positive life changing experiences. Colin Bracken said:

“I belong to a group of four and we support and bond so well that we look forward to our meetings with enthusiasm and keenness. We discuss everything with openness and honesty. Although a small group we walk away knowing that the Spirit has touched us. Our minds have been blessed and refreshed as we await our next meeting. On Monday night we all sensed a deep belonging and felt safe. The Spirit was truly amongst us. What I find beautiful is the different cultural reactions to the Catholic faith. These men are able to reach out expressing their own commitment to the group and God. It truly is an amazing experience.

The men will miss not meeting over the Christmas break but are looking forward to meeting again in 2018.

Peter O’Toole, Men’s Ministry Coordinator
