The Season of Lent

The Season of Lent

This Sunday’s Gospel, the third of the great Gospel stories from John, brings us to the end of our Lenten journey and of our preparation to renew our baptismal vows. In the last two weeks we encountered Jesus, the Living and Life-giving Water and the Light of the World. Today we are invited to recognise him as the Resurrection and the Life.

In today’s Gospel Jesus calls his dear friend Lazarus back to life. This is indeed only a very faint image of what happens to us when we die and rise again in Christ. Lazarus was called back to this life, only to die again. When we die, we rise to the fullness of life in God .

As we continue on our Lenten journey, let us consider taking part in any of the following available at the Parish:

The Way of the Cross: During Lent, time to reflect on the Stations of the Cross will be every Friday at 7:30pm in the Church.

Online Lenten Reflections:  Zoom Reflections on Tuesdays at 7pm. Last session at https://www.youtube.com/embed/RNl6zYQv0U0.   Register via https://www.garrattpublishing.com.au/blog/post/2023-virtual-lent-series/

FIAT – A Weekend of Prayer

During Lent, we journey with Jesus and his disciples as they approach the paschal mystery event.   Archbishop Peter Comensoli has invited parish communities to FIAT – A Weekend of Prayer, from Fri 24 to Sun 26 Mar, to coincide with the feast of the Annunciation to Mary, usually celebrated on 25th of March.

We reflect upon the great invitation presented to Mary to be the Mother of Jesus, the Son of God, and her total YES to him.  Mary’s yes inspires us to know and walk our own journey of faith.

At St James, we are gathering together as a parish community for an hour of prayer on Sat 25 Mar, at 7:00pm (after 6:00pm Mass).  We will pray with song (led by Belinda and choir), the psalms, Gospel reading, reflection and prayers of the faithful. All welcome.

The Season of Lent

On this fourth Sunday in Lent, through its liturgy, the Church invites us to search for the light.  For us Christians, Christ is our one true light.

The blind man in the Gospel is healed from his lack of sight and can now see that Jesus is in fact the Christ. The Pharisees refuse to acknowledge the light that Jesus brings, and so become blind to God’s gifts.  Faith invites us to let the light of Christ shine in and through us, enlightening our whole life.

As we continue on our Lenten journey, let us consider taking part in any of the following available at the Parish:

The Way of the Cross: During Lent, time to reflect on the Stations of the Cross will be every Friday at 7:30pm in the Church.

The Season of Lent

As Lent progresses, on this third Sunday in Lent we are invited to the well to listen in on an intimate conversation between Jesus and an unnamed Samaritan woman.

In the Old Testament, the well is often seen as the place of encounter, the community gathers to collect water. Moreover, often lovers meet and new relationships are forged. Jacob met his wife Rebecca at this very well.

Joseph De Piro searched for and drank from this life-giving water. His sermons are a sure proof that he constantly nourished himself with the water that is Jesus Christ.

As we continue on our Lenten journey, let us consider taking part in any of the following available at the Parish:
