St James the Apostle Parish, Hoppers Crossing North
Welcome to St James the Apostle Parish, Hoppers Crossing North, where we rejoice in being a faith-filled, welcoming and caring Catholic community. In the tradition of St James the Apostle who held a special place in the heart and ministry of Jesus, we invite you to ‘come as you are.’
St James the Apostle was the great protector of pilgrims. In his spirit, we hope that all who venture here are made strong in faith and steadfast in hope on this pilgrim’s journey: the path of Christian life. To James and to his other disciples, Jesus simply said, “Follow me.” This Gospel truth is strikingly simple but sometimes hard to live. At St James the Apostle Parish, with the grace of God and through the generosity of our parishioners, all are invited to be sustained on the journey. Together, as a community, we step forward and risk the journey of faith.
Our lives are full of graced moments. Whether you are a visitor, a recent arrival to the rapidly growing area of Hoppers Crossing North, or simply looking for a spiritual home, we are confident that you will find our parish to be an inspirational place where you can enrich your Christian life, and explore and grow in faith. The faith of our Parish community today is sustained through the experience of many humble and faith-filled witnesses who, through their generosity, shine a light in many different ministries as they help us feel the warmth of Jesus. The sacraments we celebrate at St James and these ministries which we offer are signs of a gracious God who never stops revealing himself.
Parish Mission Statement and Prayer
Loving God, through your apostle James, we seek your guidance and constant protection, for our parish community.
Gathered together as your people, we come as we are, to live out the Gospel message, in a faith-filled, welcoming and caring community.
Grant us your help in our weakness, that we may proclaim to all, your abundant goodness. We praise and thank you for your gifts, given freely to us.
May we never lose faith in you and always strive to learn, in a spirit of strength and gentleness. On our pilgrimage, may we be an example of your love to those we meet.
Loving God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, we ask that you always watch over us in all we do

Letter from Martin Enright
Dear Parishioners of St James,
My time is nearly over here at St James and I want to take this opportunity to express my deep appreciation for the opportunity I have had to be a part of such a great community. Twenty-one years ago Fr Peter Ray and the selection panel, which included Brendan Morrisey and Lori Penna, appointed me to this role and I am forever grateful for their faith and trust in me and for the loyalty and support I received over time.
It has been an amazing journey with many changes in approaches to curriculum, changes to the staff, new families coming and others leaving, many building projects, road works, changes to the neighbourhood and amazing growth in the Hoppers Crossing, Tarneit and Truganina areas. Along the way I have encountered many situations and been privileged to share in the joys, the hardships and even the tragedies that have been a part of community life here. Thank you for allowing me to share in your stories and offer my support in whatever ways I was able to. This work has enriched my life in so many ways and I couldn’t possibly explain it all here.
The staff I have worked with have been deeply dedicated to educating, supporting and caring for your children and I am grateful to them for their work and their support over the years. Your children are beautiful and have really strived to live out our school motto of “Living with strength and in gentleness”. Their warmth and their welcome, not just to me but to any person coming into our school has been pleasure to experience.
I will miss all of this as I move on to the next phase of my life but I will take with me memories of the many things that have shaped me into the person I am today. In the same way I hope that the contribution I have been able to make has helped to make a difference in your lives and provided a foundation for the years to come.
You have a wonderful Parish Priest in Fr Jude who has been a great friend and mentor to me during his time here. Our aim was to work in partnership to build a strong parish identity and to carry on the tradition of being welcoming and caring. He has done a fantastic job of drawing people in and creating energy and spirit in this community. His support for me and the partnership we have been able to build will not be forgotten. Your continued support of the parish community is essential to making the future as strong as the present.
I was given a wonderful send off on Wednesday evening with a lovely Eucharist celebration and a chance to share some final moments with family, staff, colleagues, parishioners, CEO staff and past members of school staff. I thank you all for coming along to share in that celebration with me and allowing me to feel the warmth and appreciation for my work. I particularly want to thank Maria Scala and Karen Pearman for their work in arranging this wonderful evening. They are two special people in my life who have supported me, encouraged me, picked me up when I was down and cared for me in ways that I will always appreciate. You are lucky to have them as part of St James community.
May God bless you all and may the warmth and welcome of St James parish continue to support you all in the years ahead.
