Prayers of the Faithful – Feast of the Ascension

Prayers of the Faithful – Feast of the Ascension

Introduction:
With the feast of the Ascension of the Lord, we come to the end of Jesus’s earthly life. For the Apostles, it has been a journey from suffering and death to the joy of the Resurrection. The Ascension is another huge step in experiencing the Lord’s presence as they continue his work.

Following some hard, demanding and painful months, we too are reminded that the Lord is always with us as we are being continuously sent out in his name.

Prayers of the Faithful:

Dear friends, as Jesus returned in glory to God’s right hand, he commissioned his disciples to proclaim the good news to all. In that spirit let us pray for the needs of the whole world.

We pray for the human family. May the trauma of the coronavirus pandemic fuel our determination to work together for a new world of justice and peace.

We pray for all missionaries, especially the Paulist Missionaries. May all who have left their homeland to spread the good news be assured of our solidarity and support.

We pray for the church in Australia. May Mary, Help of Christians, be our companion and guide through the troubled times in which we live.

We pray for those in the Permanent Diaconate especially Dcn Royden, and give thanks for his generosity and service to the community.

We pray for the ancestors of the Wurundjeri people on whose land we stand, for the recently deceased Juletta Seymon, Bevan Wilson, Pellegrino Corbo, Carmel Trento and Thaddaeus Zhang, and for those whose anniversaries occur about this time, Jaime Gamo, Antonietta Fabretto, Laurie Fenech, Crispin and Teodora Chan, Resty and Jay Padilla, Gliceria Rebano, Maria Ducut, Ricardo Leonardo, Michael Papavero, John Cusmano, Natu Portelli, Emy Saffarese, Jeff Ruthvern, Ron Gamble. May they inherit the rich glories promised the saints.

Closing Prayer :

Father of Jesus and God of glory, your Son promised to be with us to the end of time. May we live by his truth and rejoice in his love. We ask this through Christ, our risen Lord.
