Volunteers Needed to Start Weekend Masses Again

Work is underway in preparation to resume weekend Masses when the government moves to Step 3 of its Roadmap to Easing Restrictions (date still to be announced). Under its Covidsafe Plan we are required to:

  • Maintain 1.5M distancing and good hygiene
  • Stay home if unwell
  • Frequently clean and disinfect communal areas.

In order to resume weekend Masses we are appealing to our parishioners for assistance. Your help is needed either as a cleaner after Mass or as an usher during Mass. Volunteer cleaners are required to sanitise chairs, other furnishings and surfaces that are touched frequently. Ushers are needed to oversee people movements and ensure they move throughout the Paulist Centre in an orderly manner and maintain social distancing.

There will be a training session for all volunteer cleaners and ushers on Friday 26th June at 7:00pm in the Paulist Centre.

We are anticipating that we will have enough volunteers to resume all four weekend Masses and hoping to introduce a roster for volunteers. If you are able to volunteer to clean or usher at a weekend Mass please let the Parish Office know either by email (hopperscrossingnorth@cam.org.au) or phone (9401 6367) and provide your name, whether you want to clean or be an usher and which Mass time you can help out at.

It is very important that we maintain a safe environment for everyone to celebrate the Eucharist together and we will not be able to proceed without your help.

Thank you to the many volunteers who assisted in packing, sorting and transporting from the four occupied spaces for the upcoming church extension.

Special thanks to our St James Primary School for providing space in the Paulist Centre for temporary worship. To Thomas Carr College for the use of the chapel for our weekday Masses and providing storage space. And to our neighbouring Parish St Peter’s, Hoppers Crossing, for allowing us to store the church pews. Thank you to Brian from PJ Waste for providing the Dumpster and to Brendan McShane for the 6 tonne truck for transporting the church pews.

The long-awaited and prayed for Church extensions will begin on Tues 25 Feb! Here are a few items to take note of:

  • Last Mass in church will be Sun 16 Feb 5:00pm
  • Weekend Masses from Sat 22 Feb will be in the Paulist Centre at the normal times (Sat 6:00pm, Sun 8:30am. 10:30am and 5:00pm)
  • 9:00am Weekday Masses (Tues-Fri) will be at the Thomas Carr College Chapel (35 Thomas Carr Drive, Tarneit) starting from Tues 18 Feb
  • 9:00am Saturday Mass will be in the Paulist Centre from Sat 22 Feb
  • Saturday Reconciliation (9:30am-10:00am and 5:00pm-5:30pm) will be in the Paulist Centre from Sat 22 Feb
  • Working Bees to move items from the Church and the Youth Shed will be at multiple days/times during the week of 17-22 Feb. To help with the Working Bees, please enter name and details on the sheet in the Narthex.

Altar Servers For Christmas

Altar Servers are asked to mark down ALL their availabilities in the sheets provided in the Narthex for any Christmas Masses they wish to serve at, so we can make the rosters for Christmas.  You will be contacted via email by on Mon 23 Dec to confirm which Christmas Mass(es) you have been rostered to serve on. The next Training Session for Lectors and Commentators will be on Wed 20 Nov at 7:00pm-9:00pm. Please join us if you are interested in joining this ministry or wish to find out more information. Current ministers are expected to attend a Training Session once every 2 years. Please RSVP by contacting the Parish on 9748 6800, Mon-Fri, 9:30am-2:30pm.

If you are a new volunteer or are considering becoming one, and would like to be involved in one of the ministries at St James, or a current volunteer who has yet to attend our Volunteer Induction, we would like to invite you to the next Volunteer Induction meeting on Wed 06 Nov at 7:00pm-8:30pm.

Serving in a ministry at St James will require you to attend this meeting for induction and all current volunteers are expected to attend a Volunteer Induction.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of the community and we seek to support you in all ways necessary to assist you in your service.

The Altar Server Ministry is once more offering a session to train new Altar Servers to join this ministry.

If you have completed your First Eucharist and would like to be trained and/or find out more information, come to the next Training Session on Sat 26 Oct at 11:30am sharp in the church. At least one parent must also attend.
